Satellite Clubs Case Study

Postive Futures Satellite Club Programme

Active Lincolnshire worked with Lincoln South Positive Futures team to engage young people in sport and physical activity though our Satellite club programme. This case study reveals the positive benefits to the young people in the local area involved with the clubs.

Basketball Case Study – Ben

This Case Study looks at a basketball satellite club and focuses on one participant Ben who gained great benefits from the club.

Working with Positive Futures, Active Lincolnshire set up a basketball satellite club in April 2019 for 14-17 year olds.

Ben attended all ten sessions in the April – July 2019 summer programme. As well as showing great commitment to his own session, Ben also began to volunteer at the junior session. He umpired games and helped to clear away equipment ready for the start of his own session. He gained great benefits from being involved with the project as he took on more responsibility as a leader within the group.

After the summer break Ben continued with his commitment to the sessions during the September to December block, showing improvements both technically and with his fitness levels as he started to carry out more physical activity.

As the video (see above) reveals the programme helped Ben become a much more active individual, increasing his amount of exercise significantly. He is now going to the gym three times a week and training specifically for his basketball session.

Ben has now started to attend sessions at local basketball club Lincoln Lightning, and is enjoying developing his technique and increasing his physical activity even more.
