Mental Health
We work with healthcare professionals and mental health networks across Lincolnshire to support and upskill local services, helping to embed physical activity into the healthcare sector and improve the local population’s mental health – with partners including the Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LPFT), neighbourhood teams and the social prescribing network.
Physical activity has been shown to have a hugely positive impact on mental health and wellbeing. Not only does it help people manage the symptoms of depression, anxiety and ADHD, but it also relieves stress, improves memory and sleep, and boosts overall mood.

Think Active
The Think Active project was born out of some early work we did with the health sector and our partners at Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. We worked across the physical activity sector to encourage seven providers to develop an offer that supported residents to re-connect, post the pandemic, in an active way. We wanted to ensure people with low level mental health challenges could do something positive for their physical and mental health. The learnings from the experience are continuing to inform our guidance to the sector and are giving us local examples to share with health colleagues as we continue to embed physical activity in the health and care system.

Insight & research
We believe that insight, research and a deep understanding of the needs of local people are key to creating long-lasting, meaningful change. That’s why we’re committed to seeking, utilising and responding to research at every turn, using data to guide and support the work we undertake.
There is a whole host of local and national research surrounding the benefits of physical activity on mental health. As part of our role in the healthcare sector, we aim to build on this insight and strengthen the links between mental health and physical activity, ensuring Lincolnshire residents have inclusive and accessible opportunities to stay active in their daily lives.
