Our Impact: 2023 - 24
The past financial year has been another busy and impactful period for our charity, as we continue to inspire, support, and lead efforts to make physical activity accessible to everyone across Lincolnshire. Our Impact Report outlines some of the highlights of our work between April 2023 and March 2024 and how we've been making a difference to getting more people, more active, more often.
In a year shaped by challenges such as the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, our focus has remained steadfast: supporting those who face the greatest barriers to being active while empowering the physical activity sector to adapt, innovate, and thrive. By working collaboratively with a wide range of organisations, stakeholders, community groups, and clubs, we aim to ensure there are relevant, inclusive opportunities for all Lincolnshire residents to lead more active lives.
Our work is made possible through the strategic investment of Sport England, whose backing as part of the national Uniting the Movement strategy allows us to provide leadership, influence policy, and foster partnerships that drive long-term change.
Emma Tatlow, Active Lincolnshire CEO commented:
"This impact report highlights the breath of our work and the real impact it has on enabling residents across Lincolnshire to enjoy the far reaching benefits of being active.
Our work is predominantly focused on supporting the wide range of organisations, stakeholders, community groups and clubs across the county who provide activities and who can influence policies and decisions to make it easier for everyone to be active. Enabling more people to be more active more often is a shared responsibility, and we'd like to thank and recognise everyone who we are working together with to help achieve our vision of a Lincolnshire where everyone has the opportunity to be active everyday. As we move forward and build on the work outlined in this report we continue to work collaboratively to tackle the inequalities that exist and break down barriers to participation in physical activity."
Highlights of our work
This report highlights the significant progress and key achievements of 2023-2024.
These include:
- Opening up opportunities to be active for the communities in greatest need, both through Tackling Inequalities funding and Opening School Facilities funding. Over 6,550 people from the least active communities were supported to move more, with more than £190,000 of grants of Sport England's Tackling Inequalities funding distributed by Active Lincolnshire to clubs and groups around the county. £324,000 of Opening School Facilities investment has been distributed to 17 schools in Lincolnshire, supporting them to open up their facilities outside of the school day, increasing opportunities to be active in the areas identified as most in need.
- We have continued our collaborations with the health sector as we work to embed physical activity into health and social care. As part of this work 26 Health and Care professionals benefited from training in physical activity's role in the management and prevention of long term health conditions, and we trained 17 new This Mum Moves Ambassadors in Lincolnshire who can now support women to move more in pregnancy and as new mums.
- The year saw further development of the Wheels for Life, Bike Donation scheme, with new hubs launched across the county, and more ride leaders and volunteer mechanics trained. This programme supports people in transport poverty as well as supporting the environment, encouraging active travel and preventing old bikes from entering landfill.
- With a focus on creating positive experiences of physical activity of sport and physical activity for children and young people, we worked with and supported various projects across Lincolnshire. These include upskilling the Holiday Activity Fund (HAF) providers to deliver inclusive and accessible physical activity sessions, and working with M2 to deliver a programme of movement and mindfulness sessions for primary aged girls which boosted mental wellbeing as well as generating enthusiasm for being active.
- We have seen the continued growth of the Let's Move Lincolnshire website and activity finder, helping local people find opportunities to be active and giving providers the chance to promote their sessions for free. A Let's Move East Lindsey pilot project, supported by a £57,447 grant from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, enabled us to work in depth with providers in this district to help them showcase their offer to residents in the area.
