NCS Students make getting active fun!

NCS students across Gainsborough, Grantham, Sleaford and Deeping have spent their summer creating more opportunities to get active for children, the elderly and those suffering from dementia as well as increasing the incentive to take the dog for a walk when the weather gets colder.

Students have researched, trialled and tested interactive walks and quizzes using Active Lincolnshire’s GoExplore Lincolnshire app to create something special for their districts.

Grantham students have created a walking experience around Wyndham Park which will be used to help celebrate its Grand unveiling event on September 9th.

Deeping students held fundraisers (including “wellie wanging”, tombola and “name the bear”) as well as a sports day and fun activities for all who took part in their test walk. Proceeds from the fundraising were given to Busy Bees nursery (who provided the artwork the students used for their walk) and members of the community with projects targeting an increase in physical activity.

Students from Sleaford went over and above designing and testing three different styles of walks- one for dog walkers, one for families and a longer cultural and historic walk. They then engaged with members of the public, a representative of Sleaford Museum Trust and a local care home to take part in their history walk to promote physical activity during their social action week. Gainsborough students also created three different walks for the public to enjoy, packed full of interesting facts, differing in distance and difficulty.

The goal for the students was to create something fun and unique that would help members of the public discover more about their district and to spend more time outside being active, and they have certainly delivered!

These walks are available for free and showcase each district, sharing the local history, interesting facts and quizzes that adults and children alike can enjoy.

To find these walks from your area download the GoExplore Lincolnshire app (from the app store or play store) and search under Walks and your district (West Lindsey, North Kesteven or South Kesteven) or for Quizzes simply go to the Quiz tab and you will see the ones closest to you!

If you have a great walk you want to share to help cultivate a more active county then you can create your route using the GoExplore Lincolnshire app as well!
