New Activity Finder – Coming Soon
Active Lincolnshire, working with Lincolnshire County Council, is excited to be launching a new open data enabled Let’s Move Lincolnshire Activity Finder and Digital Platform this summer.
The Covid-19 Pandemic has had a negative effect on many people’s activity levels. The new Let’s Move Lincolnshire digital platform and Activity Finder will be an opportunity to encourage people back to physical activity and sport and signpost people to appropriate organised activities that are on offer in the county. The platform will feature a wide range of activities that are suitable for people of all ages and levels of fitness, allowing them to find ways to be active that work for them.
The Activity Finder will be open data enabled, so if you are already using a open data enabled booking or management system, or you use an open data enabled platform such as Classfinder, the data you share will automatically be featured. If not, don’t worry, it will be very easy to add your club and /or activity session details, to not only share them with people in Lincolnshire via the Activity Finder, but also to make them available as part of National campaigns such as National Fitness Day, or This Girl Can. Read on below to find out more about what open data is.
What is Open Data?
Publishing open data about where, when and what activities take place makes it easier for people to find and book activities online. Activity Finders and apps can use this data to help people find the information they need to get active. It can improve the customer experience, help activity providers and sports clubs reach new audiences and ultimately help more people get active.
Open ‘opportunity’ data can includes details of a class (“how much will it cost?”) through to badminton court availability (“where and when is a court available?”). It does not include membership or customer data.
- Get your activities and sessions listed in a wider range of apps and services, letting you reach a broader audience through more channels than before
- Make it simpler for new or existing customers to find the activities that you run
- Find new ways to promote and fill quiet sessions
- Making your data open means that developers and apps can use it straight away; you don’t need to set up data sharing agreements with individual companies
- Have your say on the development of the data standards so that they work for you
- Make sure that you comply with the most recent funding agreements from Sport England
OpenActive is helping people get active by making data about sport and physical activity opportunities openly available.
Take a look at the short video from OpenActive below which gives a useful introduction to what open data is and how it can benefit the sport and physical activity sector or visit the OpenActive website to find out more. OpenActive is stewarded by the Open Data Institute (ODI), supported by Sport England and formed of member organisations and individuals in the sport and physical activity sector who share a vision to help people get active by stimulating use and innovation with open data.
