The coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak means that life has changed for all of us. It is important to look after your mental wellbeing as well as your physical health during this time. There are lots of simple things you can do to help your mental health. We’ve put some tips below, as well as links to other resources, and support lines if you feel you need to talk to somebody about your worries.
Keep Active – Keeping active has a proven positive effect on your mental health. If you can, get outside for your exercise everyday, whether that is going for a walk, or a cycle or doing some gardening. For ideas on how to stay active at home visit our Active at Home pages.
Eat Healthily – Eating a healthy balanced diet containing fruit and vegetables, and cutting back on alcohol can be beneficial for your mood, as well as your physical health. If you want help with losing weight or cutting down on your drinking One You Lincolnshire can offer support.
Connect with Friends and Family – Make use of your phone, social media and video calling to stay in touch with your friends and family. Try reconnecting with old friends. If you’re feeling lonely read these tips from Mental Health Foundation.
Stick to a routine – Having structure to your day can help keep you feeling positive and motivated. Scheduling in a set time for exercise each day may make you more likely to do it. If you’re working from home, try and work regular hours and remember to take regular breaks. For more tips for working from home click here.
Get a good nights sleep – It can be hard to sleep at the moment, but there are things you can do to help if you’re having trouble. Try to exercise every day (but avoid vigorous exercise before bedtime). Keep to a routine (so try going to bed and getting up the same time every day). Cut down on caffeine and alcohol, both of which can stop you sleeping well.
