Despite the many benefits of physical activity for women during perimenopause, menopause and mid life, many women become less active during this lifestage. Discover insight and resources below to help support them to be active.
A third of women aged 41 to 60 are not meeting the Chief Medical Officers’ guidelines of 150 minutes per week of exercise and a fifth are not achieving even 30 minutes per week.
In research with women of this life stage, Women in Sport found multiple barriers and menopause related factors are preventing women from getting active including social and physical reasons. However, physical activity can help women in midlife to manage menopause symptoms and stay healthy. For this research Women in Sport examined every aspect of women’s lives over a five-month period to fully understand their experiences of menopause and physical activity and uncover the barriers that women experience to being active throughout midlife and menopause.
