The Impact on Health Award recognises a programme or approach to physical activity that has improved the health and wellbeing of participants in Lincolnshire. This includes both physical and mental health. It may also recognise initiatives which promote an overall healthy lifestyle, or based around supporting and improving specific health outcomes; i.e. dementia, diabetes, cancer, obesity, poor mental health etc. This may include success in bringing together the health sector and the physical activity and sport sector.

Our Finalists

Ageless & Agile Project

Magna Vitae's Ageless & Agile project helps reduce social isolation and increase physical activity, health literacy, and understanding of managing long-term conditions. Sessions are held in Louth, Skegness, Horncastle, and Mablethorpe, engaging participants through interactive activities that boost skills, self-belief, confidence, and fun.

The project incorporates resources from ‘Sporting Memories’ to spark reminiscence and conversation. Led by Marko and Sarah, the sessions blend support, fun, and competition in a welcoming environment. Activities include informal exercises such as seated workouts, tai chi, and games like indoor kurling, boccia, and volleyball, helping participants improve strength and balance.

Participants increase their activity levels naturally, learning to integrate movement into daily life beyond the sessions. The project collaborates with the ‘Exercise on Prescription’ initiative at Magna Vitae centres, offering additional or alternative activities for those who may not find the gym suitable. The inclusive approach encourages mutual support among participants, promoting sustainable physical activity. Ageless & Agile is funded by Shine’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Community Investment Fund.

Hannah Brumpton

Hannah is a therapeutic riding instructor at Hope Meadows, a not-for-profit organization that supports individuals with mental health difficulties through equine-assisted therapy and therapeutic riding. She works with children and adults aged 4 to 70, helping those with neurodiversity, depression, anxiety, PTSD, and stress overcome mental health barriers by making riding fun, safe, and therapeutic. Hannah’s compassionate approach ensures every participant feels valued and cared for.

Since joining, Hannah has grown the therapeutic riding programme from 5 to 45 clients, continually expanding capacity to meet local demand. In May, she earned her Level 2 coaching certification, enabling her to welcome more participants into the programme. She now coaches both individuals who want to learn to ride in a therapeutic setting and supports those using riding as therapy for mental health.

Despite facing personal challenges in recent years, Hannah remains dedicated to her clients, drawing on her own experiences to fuel her passion for helping others. Her commitment to providing equal access to therapeutic riding has led to many successes, impacting the lives of numerous individuals.

Lincolnshire Living with Cancer Programme

Evidence suggests that physical activity benefits people following a cancer diagnosis, offering physical, mental, and social advantages. In Lincolnshire, those living with cancer (LWC) often struggle to find information and support services. To address this, the Lincolnshire LWC programme has compiled available resources on the Connect2Support website and will soon launch an interactive map and events calendar on the ‘Lincolnshire Cancer Support’ website.

The programme team has actively listened to the concerns of those with cancer, working with community partners to make information more accessible and improve the quality of life for residents. They have identified gaps in service provision and collaborated with organisations like community leisure centres and charities to address these needs.

Supported projects include the ‘Fighting Fit’ L4 Cancer Rehab Programme, now running in multiple locations across Lincolnshire, and the ‘5K Your Way’ initiative in Lincoln and Boston. Additionally, monthly meet-ups at Belton House offer a 5K walk/jog/run, and a pilot Yoga Therapy programme is available at Londonthorpe Woods. The programme also recently launched ‘Geared up for Cancer’ guided cycle rides in Grantham, enhancing physical activity options for those living with cancer.
