Our Finalists

Mini Olympics - Inspire+

Charity Inspire+ organizes the annual Mini Olympics for children across South Kesteven, attracting around 3,000 participants and volunteers over three days. The event aims to inspire everyone to be more physically active, whether through school sports, community activities, or volunteering.

The Mini Olympics is inclusive, accommodating children of all abilities. It begins with a vibrant opening ceremony, featuring a parade of banners displaying each school’s name and facts about their adopted country. Children then participate in various stations offering exciting, inclusive, and unique activities such as wheelchair sports, boccia, and boxercise.

The event is supported by numerous partners, including local sports clubs, coaches, and Sporting Ambassadors like world champion high jumper Jonathan Broom-Edwards. Nottingham Carnival enhances the opening ceremony, while the Royal Opera House choreographs a special closing dance involving all participants. Over the years, the Mini Olympics has set two world records in skipping and hooping, been featured on BBC News twice, and even welcomed Dame Kelly Holmes, who once arrived by helicopter!

Give it a Go event - South Holland District Council

The Communities Team at South Holland District Council hosts the annual 'Give it A Go' event, now in its 5th year. This free event in Spalding brings together sport, dance, exercise, and community groups from across the district to promote active and healthy lifestyles. It offers residents of all ages and abilities the chance to try various activities, with clubs showcasing their offerings through demonstrations, free trials, and expert advice.

The event features a range of activities like a mobile climbing wall, roller skating rink, crazy golf, and aeroball, attracting over 1,000 visitors each year. It also provides networking opportunities, helping the Communities Team connect with more local clubs, promote collaboration, and guide them toward additional support and funding.

In 2024, the event was held at Carters Park in Holbeach to engage more of the community in the eastern part of the district. Additionally, the team runs a ‘Love Parks’ roadshow in rural areas, addressing transportation challenges to ensure children and adults can access physical activities

The Spring Games - Magna Vitae

The Spring Games were held at the Meridian Leisure Centre in Louth during Dementia Action Week (13th – 19th May). Organized by Magna Vitae, the event featured an inclusive afternoon of games, inviting participants from local dementia cafés, activity groups, and a primary school. Over 70 individuals with dementia joined, along with their carers, who received much-needed respite.

The activities included golf, egg & spoon races, bean bag targets, and tabletop games. Magna Vitae’s Community Team created adapted versions of these games to ensure everyone could participate, regardless of age or mobility. The event fostered fun, laughter, and new friendships, with participants enjoying diverse and accessible games. Young helpers and leaders enthusiastically supported the activities, ensuring a joyful experience for all.

The day concluded with awards and tea, providing an opportunity for socialising. Community partners, including local Police and Fire services, Shine Lincolnshire, YMCA Lincolnshire, and Lincolnshire County Council Day Services, came to support the event.
