Pedal for Paris and the Going for Green Pledge
Ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Sport England chair Chris Boardman is leading an eight-day bike ride from Manchester to Paris, to promote green action and innovation ahead of the Olympic Games in the French capital.
Starting from the National Cycling Centre in Manchester on 16 July and finishing in Paris on 23 July, Chris Boardman will be joined by multi-Olympic medallist and UK Sport chair Katherine Grainger and a host of other high-profile participants.
Pedal for Paris references not just the host city for this summer’s Olympics and Paralympics but also the Paris Agreement, the landmark international treaty on climate change signed in December 2015.
The aim of the ride is to urge greater action to limit global warming to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels, and encourage our sector to accelerate action in pursuit of this goal.
To coincide with the ride, every club and community group in England is invited to sign the Going for Green Pledge to become more sustainable. The pledges will show the sports sector leading by example, collectively tackling the most important challenge we are ever likely to face and in doing so, help ensure future generations continue to have a place to enjoy playing sports and stay physically active
Join us in signing the pledge and committing to becoming more environmentally sustainable.
