Dexter Mansfield

12 year old Dexter Mansfield is an ice-hockey player from Langtoft.

Most memorable achievement:

I am the only player in the area to have been selected to the last 23 for the England U13’s squad.

August Blog:

April: Last league game of the season, needed to win to secure the league Title. We won the title; celebrations were had on the ice, with the league cup. May: Conference tournament held over Bank holiday weekend in May, where Scotland, Midlands, South East, South West and Northern conferences all meet and play each other. We won our first 3 games to secure us a spot in the final, but unfortunately we lost to the South West in the Finals. I was also picked to attend a school of Excellence in Hull in August. May: National Finals, this is where the winners from the North League (Nottingham) play the winners of the South, this was Guildford. It was a very tense feel prior to game, lots of nerves. And Guildford came away with the National title, wining 6 – 2. All league and conference games have now finished until the beginning of next season, (Beginning September)

June: England trials begin. First trials were held in Nottingham in June. I was picked for the next round what is a 3 day closed camp in Sheffield July 2-4th. Watch this space for updates. This is where they select the final 18 players that goes out to Quebec in Canada February 2012. For the biggest U13’s Pee Wee Tournament, where all the elite players/teams go from around the world. July 17th I travel to Canada for a 3 week training camp. And the week after I return I go on the school of Excellence in Hull for U14’s for a week.

March Blog:

I was chosen to play for Team England – we went out to Quebec, Canada, the largest PeeWee Tournament in the world for this age group. With teams representing the tournament from all over the world. We had 9 games in all, we won 4 games, lost 4 and draw 1. I finished second top point scorer for England.

I have been through trials and selected for Midlands Under 13’s. They have 1 tournament once a year, where all the conferences from around the country play each other in Hull for a Conference weekend.  In preparation for this we go out to Den-haag in Holland to play European teams.

Nottingham Tigercubs is my club, and we are on schedule with 1 game remaining to take the North Title of league champions, and will go through to the National finals held in Sheffield in May.

Achieving 61 points for club so far, this is by far the best points I have achieved since playing over 7 seasons.

March 21st – 25th I travel with the Midlands Under 13’s team to Den-haag in Holland in preparation for the conference finals.  Training for this is at 11pm until 1am on  a Saturday night twice a month, sometimes having to go straight after games that can be anywhere in the country, and getting home about 3.ooam.

National finals also held in May, this is a major tile to achieve after hopefully winning the league, where the North and South play for the title.
