17 year old Alex Hutchinson is a volleyball player from Grantham.
Most memorable achievement:
Being picked to train and play with the England cadets. I have played in Austria and Italy. I have also been invited to train with the National Academy.
Alex Played for Nottingham Rockets in the National finals at Kettering; they weren’t expected to get that far in the competition. They lost this match but had a good experience of playing at a higher level.
In May Alex travelled to London with the England North Squad to take part in the Sainsbury School Games. The squad played lots of volleyball and came 3rd overall thoroughly enjoyed themselves, returning late on Wednesday 9th May shattered. Alex can’t wait for next year.
Inter-Regional Championships were also held at Kettering; Alex was part of the East Midlands squad. They won this competition and were pleased with their performance.
As the volleyball season is now over training has slowed down a little, Alex needs to keep his fitness level up as he has been invited to try out for the England Junior Men squad in August
The weekend of the 7th /8th July was spent at Bridlington Alex went with Lincoln Cannons Volleyball club, they go for the social aspect as well as playing. This is a beach tournament and considering the bad weather we have been having I didn’t think it would still go ahead, it did and they all came back sun burnt but had a really good time.
In January I travelled to Friedrichshafen in Austria to play with the England Cadets, it was a close hard but very exciting tournament. All the hours of training paid off as we came second in the competition, Carol our coach was very please with our performance.
On the 25th February I played for Nottingham Rockets coach by Paul Lamb in the under 18’s Final 8’s National Finals. In this competion we came joint third, we hadn’t had much time to train so we didn’t to bad. The following day was the under16’s Final 8’s National finals I once again was playing for Nottingham Rockets, we have been training hard for this competition as we wanted to do well, and it paid off as we made it through to the finals which will take place in Kettering at the volleyball centre on the 29th April.
I’m looking forward to the Final 8’s National final in April, training is going well and is intense as each training session lasts for three hours. I have also been chosen to play for the North Squad at the Sainsburys UK School Games at the begining of May. We will be using the Olympic facilities so am looking forward to the whole experience. I have had a couple of weekends away training with the squad and we are coming together as a team. There is one more training weekend planed before the competition.
