Special Olympic athletes jingled all the way home from the Special Olympic 40th Anniversary games in Sterling from 9-13th August.

Lincolnshire’s two badminton players Danielle and James played fantastic rallies and Danielle achieved two Silver medals for singles and mixed doubles, along with James who also achieved Silver with Danielle and Gold in the badminton singles.

Danielle’s sister Emma said “To say that my sister has competed at the Special Olympics fills me with so much pride. We went to the Special Olympics hopeful but not expectant and to return home with TWO silver medals was the best feeling ever. Danielle played brilliantly in the women’s singles and her and James made a fantastic team for the mixed doubles. It was a brilliant experience and I am so pleased that I got to share it with them.”

The Games welcomed 1,200 athletes in a variety of sports and our athletes certainly did Lincolnshire proud.

The Special Olympic Sterling motto -Be bold, be kind, be awesome was certainly meant for our team.
