Diabetes Prevention Week Success

Diabetes Prevention Week 2018 was a great success, with roadshows held across the county bringing knowledge and insight around type 2 diabetes and the different options available to improve prevention.

During the week long promotion our leisure partners kindly provided their services at the events on our behalf, providing information and knowledge about physical activity and how a healthy lifestyle includes being active alongside a healthy diet and good nutrition.

They also opened their doors and services to the public to come and try their facilities including water workout sessions, yoga, badminton, walking football, bollywood dance and golf.

The NHS provided toolkits and fact sheets about type 2 diabetes. The “know your risk” quiz is short and easy to take and can be found here.

According the NHS England around 22,000 people with diabetes die early every year. Type 2 diabetes is a leading cause of preventable sight loss in people of working age and is a major contributor to kidney failure, heart attack, and stroke.

There are currently 3.4 million people with Type 2 diabetes in England with around 200,000 new diagnoses every year. While Type 1 diabetes cannot be prevented and is not linked to lifestyle, Type 2 diabetes is largely preventable through lifestyle changes.

Active Lincolnshire was proud to support this event and events like it that help inform our county and ensure we live a healthy and active lifestyle.

Thank you to the leisure providers: Everybody Active, Active Nation, Magna Vitae, 1life and Better Gym for providing your time and expertise.
