400 guests from across the county descended on the Showground on Thursday 2 November for the thirteenth Lincolnshire Sports Awards.

Winners from the world of sport were joined by businesses, schools, universities and local communities in a glittering evening of inspiring sporting and  volunteering success stories.

Overall Sports Personality of the Year went to up and coming water skiing star, Rob Hazelwood. Rob battled back from injury to become U21 world champion and is now in the Team GB U21 and open age squads. Rob said: “It’s been a tough year to get fit again, but it has all been worth it. I was stunned to win this award and it has inspired me to achieve even more.”

The night was filled with inspiring stories, including Ray North who won the Active Change award. Having being told he had terminal cancer, Ray decided that he wasn’t going to let that stop him raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support and earlier this year he ran the Bath Half Marathon.

Lynsey Norris, Active Lincolnshire, organised the event: “So many categories were very competitive! The Active Primary School and Active Business were just two where the standard was excellent. I’d like to make a special mention to Barry Chapman who won the Lifetime Achievement Award for a staggering 57 years of volunteering. He is still today nurturing future talent at Woodhall Spa’s junior gold section and helping to change young people’s lives.”
