Boston Boltz (Stickney Back to Netball) and Bassingham Belles (Bassingham Back to Netball) were crowned winners of the first Back to Netball festival held in Lincolnshire this year.
120 ladies from 13 teams across Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire competed in the full-day round-robin tournament at Lincoln College on Sunday 21 February. The teams were seeded and split into two groups, with medals being awarded to the winners from each group.
Louise Key, England Netball Development Officer for Lincolnshire, said:
“It’s great to see so many ladies coming together at one event, many of who haven’t played since school.
“The laughter and camaraderie, as well as some excellent netball, is what makes the Back to Netball programme such a success.”
The Back to Netball festival was part of England Netball’s ‘Net 10 for Life’ campaign to raise money for Cancer Research UK. Through entry donation fees and merchandise, the festival in Lincolnshire raised £250.67.
Back to Netball is a scheme for ladies who haven’t played netball for some time, or not at all. The sessions combine basic netball skills with games which are designed to be a fun way of improving fitness, and meeting new people.
There are currently seven weekly schemes taking place in Lincoln, Grantham, Louth, Stickney and Sleaford.
