Sainsbury’s School Games set to welcome Olympian

Ross Davenport 2The Sainsbury’s School Games is set to welcome Olympic Freestyle Swimmer,  Ross Davenport to Grantham in celebration of the London 2012 Legacy.

With just three weeks to go until the event, Ross will be attending the Sainsbury’s School Games Lincolnshire 2015 Winter Festival, which takes place on Wednesday 4th March at Grantham Meres Leisure Centre, to join in the county wide celebration of sport and talk about his Olympic experiences.

Ross competed in the London 2012 Olympic Games as part of the 4 x 200m freestyle team and became a double Commonwealth Games Champion in Melbourne in 2006, winning the 200m and 4x200m freestyle events.

Ross said: “It will be brilliant to watch this fantastic sporting competition in Lincolnshire. I have managed to represent Great Britain three times at the Olympic Games and I’ll be carefully looking out for the next major sporting stars from Lincolnshire at the School Games. The competition is a fantastic stage to inspire other young people, make great new friends and be the very best you can be. I can’t wait for it to get started.”

Over 600 young athletes from across Lincolnshire will be competing in 8 different sporting competitions for the annual Sainsbury’s School Games Winter Festival in Grantham. With support from Active Lincolnshire and the School Sports Partnerships of Lincolnshire, the event will see 80 primary, secondary and special school teams from across the whole county competing as part of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Legacy.

The Winter Games are made up of four levels of activity: competition in schools, between schools, at county/area level and a national finals event. There will be a variety of sports taking place throughout the day including Badminton, Hockey, Netball, New Age Kurling, Swimming and Volleyball.
