The grants are being offered to sports clubs, community groups, workplaces and groups of friends who want to keep fit and take part in more activity. The funding will cover revenue and capital costs, training, equipment purchase, facility hire and coach / instructor fees. Existing groups could run an event to raise the profile of their group or run a marketing campaign to encourage others to join in. The next closing deadline is June 29, 2014.
The funding is being provided through Access LN6, a £6.5million programme which aims to improve sustainable transport options in the LN6 area and increase opportunities to walk, cycle and use public transport, as well as improving health throughout the community.
Amy Story, Physical Activity Project Officer, said: “Ten groups within the LN6 area have already benefited from funding worth £7,792. Successful groups have included Lincoln U3A, Hartsholme Cricket Club, North Hykeham Croquet Club and Nicholsons Chartered Accountants. We welcome applications from all types of organisations and would encourage people in the LN6 area to start a new activity session in their community or workplace. It could be anything from yoga or badminton to Nordic walking or a jogging group.”
In the last round Witham Runners received £950 to train more leaders for their running group. Michelle Mortimer, a member of Witham Runners, said: “The grant has allowed us to get two more leaders qualified and the extra leaders have been a great asset to the group.”
