An open top bus tour celebrating GB Paralympian Jade Etherington’s history making success at the 2014 Sochi Winter Paralympics is set to take place in Lincoln.
Schools and communities in Lincoln will have the honour of meeting and celebrating alongside the GB Paralympian and LEAP (Lincolnshire Elite Athlete Programme) athlete with a 16 mile open top bus tour across the city on Friday, April 4, 2014.
Following Jade’s achievements in the Winter Games, Active Lincolnshire have organised the open top bus tour to enable communities in Lincoln to celebrate Jade’s fantastic achievements in Sochi.
The city sightseeing bus service Tour Lincoln, which is operated by Stagecoach & Lincoln BIG, is being used for the celebration.
Jade, who currently lives in Lincoln and studied at Bishop Grosseteste University, is visually impaired and along with guide Caroline Powell managed to secure 4 medals at the Winter Games, making her the most successful British Paralympian of all time.
The tour will set off from Active Lincolnshire on Crofton Road at 10.15am and make its way around Lincoln passing the following destinations:
- Monks Abbey Primary School
- Lincoln College
- Bishop King’s School
- Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue
- Sainsbury’s (Paralympic Games sponsor)
- St Faith and St Martin School
- Lincolnshire County Council
- Lincolnshire Police HQ
- City of Lincoln Council
- Lincoln Cathedral (30 minute stop)
- Westgate School
- Eastgate School
- Lincoln Christ’s Hospital School
- Bishop Grosseteste University (30 minute stop)
- Lincoln Castle Academy/Active Nation
- Lincoln Minister School
- Brayford Pool Waterfront
The tour will conclude at the DoubleTree Hilton at approximately 1.30pm.
Jade, who is one of Active Lincolnshire’s LEAP athletes, secured 4 medals at the Sochi Paralympics including three silver and one bronze. The LEAP programme, ran by Active Lincolnshire in conjunction with Lincolnshire County Council, provides funding and support for Lincolnshire’s upcoming elite athletes and has supported Jade for three years.
