A great afternoon was had by all 11 competing teams at the third Lincolnshire Wheelchair Basketball Challenge on Thursday 21st February.

Active Lincolnshires Partnership hosted the event alongside Active Nation and their Managing Director John Oxley’s “50 Shades of Play” Birthday Challenge.

Teams from Public Health Lincolnshire, Childrens Services, City of Lincoln Council, Lincolnshire County Council, Lincoln Co-Operative, Running Imp, Active Nation and Active Lincolnshires Partnership battled it out for the coveted trophy, with Active Lincolnshires Partnership coming out on top.

Team GB’s under 23 captain Richard Sargent attended the event to share his experiences from the London 2012 Parlaympic Games Opening Ceremony and his wheelchair basketball career.

The Lincolnshire Wheelchair Basketball Programme, now in it’s3rd year, has reached over 27,000 individuals and continues to engage and inspire participants and raise awareness of disability sport, one participant stating about the event: “It was really great, I felt really lucky to be able to take part and have not stopped talking about it. I want my children, friends and colleagues all to have the experience of the sport. Please continue to try and bring it into our mainstream schools, work place, put on events in areas for the public to try out and put on clubs for mixed events with disabled and non disabled groups. It was a really good day”.
