The Market Rasen 10k multi-terrain race was cancelled on Sunday, due to adverse weather conditions.
The third and final race of the West Lindsey Race Series 2012 was cancelled on Sunday morning after advice from the race referee and Lincolnshire County Council Highways who deemed that it would be unsafe to go ahead due to the heavy rain that had fallen overnight, causing parts of the course to be waterlogged. Strong winds also meant that there was risk of failing debris in wooded areas.
Marc Rhodes, Events Officer at Active Lincolnshires Partnership, said:
“Active Lincolnshires Partnership would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused, however the safety of the participants was paramount in making the decision to cancel. An announcement will be made as soon as possible regarding arrangements going forward.”
Active Lincolnshires Partnership contacted all 350 runners on the morning of the race to inform them of the cancellation, and every effort was made to ensure that all participants and spectators were aware that the race would not go ahead.
Representatives from Active Lincolnshires Partnership will meet this week to discuss future arrangements for the Market Rasen 10k.
