Grantham Mere’s Leisure Centre, Yarborough Leisure Centre and Lincoln Castle Academy have been announced as the host venues for Lincolnshire’s Winter and Summer Sainsbury’s School Games next year.

Almost 2000 schoolchildren from more than 100 Primary and Secondary schools will take part in the two sports events in March and July 2013.

Stuart Blackbourn, Active Nation Contract Manager for Lincoln, said: “Active Nation are delighted to have been chosen to host the School Games again in 2013 at Yarborough Leisure Centre. Building on from last year which had such a positive atmosphere, it is a significant event where the youth of Lincolnshire can display their sporting talents but most importantly enjoy just taking part.”

At the Winter School Games on Wednesday 6th March 2013, participants will take part in a number of sports including table tennis, badminton, basketball, futsal, hockey, netball, rugby, new age kurling and goalball. At the Summer School Games on Wednesday 10th July, they will take part in tennis, athletics, rounders, golf, cricket, swimming, volleyball, sitting volleyball and boccia.

Gareth Short, School Games Project Officer at Active Lincolnshires Partnership, said: “It’s great to have Grantham Mere’s Leisure Centre, Yarborough Leisure Centre and Lincoln Castle Academy on board as partner for the second time. Grantham Mere’s hosted one of nine National pilots for the School Games in 2011, and Lincoln were the host venue for the Lincolnshire School Games earlier this year. The facilities at both leisure centres are fantastic and will provide a great venue for Lincolnshire’s Winter and Summer Sainsbury’s School Games in 2013.”

Lincolnshire’s Winter and Summer Sainsbury’s School Games are organised by the Local Organising Committee (LOC) involving partners from Active Lincolnshires Partnership, School Sports Partnerships, National Governing Bodies of Sport, local schools and the Youth Sport Trust (YST).

Sports facilities across the county were invited to tender for the opportunity to host either Lincolnshire’s Winter or Summer Sainsbury’s School Games.
