Organised by the City of Lincoln Council in partnership with Sportivate, ArtsNK and Positive Futures, the project aims to reduce anti–social behaviour around the city at the same time as engaging with young people who aren’t as active as they would like to be. It gives young people the opportunity to be involved in a big stage production.
Dance Factor, which is now in its sixth year, comprises of 11 sessions – nine rehearsal and two performance/competition sessions. The sessions take place each week on Friday evenings, starting on Friday 28th September, at 12 different locations around Lincoln and new for this year – North Kesteven.
Dance tutors will spend an hour and half delivering drop-in sessions to the young people in their estates. The dance troop, with the help of the dance tutor, makes up a different dance routine and on the performance night, faces off against all of the other troops from around their district. The top four teams in North Kesteven and Lincoln will battle it out for the title of ‘Dance Factor Champions 2012’ at the grand final on Sunday 16th December at the Engine Shed.
Councillor Donald Nannestad, Portfolio Holder for Recreation Services and Health at the City of Lincoln Council, said: “Dance Factor is the event that young people really enjoy. They get to spend time with their friends and making new ones as well as being healthy and active. Each year the popularity grows with last year seeing over 200 young people take part. The expansion of the event to North Kesteven is an exciting opportunity to compete against different groups of people.”
Tickets for the grand final at the Engine Shed are £3 and are available from their box office. Tickets must be collected in person prior to the event and no entry will be allowed without a valid ticket.
