This Football Foundation grant, along with significant funding from West Lindsey District Council, Welton-by-Lincoln Parish Council and WREN, ensures the community of Welton will benefit from a half a million pound investment into their sports and recreation facilities.
Cllr Richard Pikett, Chairman of the Parish Council, said: “The Parish Council is deeply indebted to the Football Foundation for providing significant funding towards this project.”
Welton Football Club is an independent, volunteer organisation with FA Charter Standard Development Club accreditation promoting and playing football using the facilities at ManorPark. This funding will allow the Parish Council to provide much improved community sports facilities to the local area and allow Welton FC to achieve the goals they have been working towards over the past two years in providing a home base for all of their successful teams.
The existing archaic facilities will be refurbished and extended providing a new high quality sports pavilion comprising of a large community room, new kitchen, officials’ rooms, with the extension providing new changing rooms and a veranda for spectators and visitors.
The project will also build of a brand new third generation (3G) artificial grass pitch with improved floodlighting.
Paul Hamnett, Football Development Officer, Lincolnshire County FA, said: “The improved facilities and artificial grass pitch will enable Welton Junior Football Club to deliver the aims and objectives outlined in their Football Development Plan.”
Funded by the Premier League, The FA, and the Government (via Sport England), the Football Foundation is the country’s largest sports charity. Since it was launched in 2000, the Foundation has awarded around 8,000 grants worth more than £420m towards improving grassroots sport, which it has used to attract additional partnership funding of over £520m.
Paul Thorogood, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, said: “I commend Welton-by-Lincoln Parish Council and Welton Football Club and the Lincolnshire County FA for working tirelessly to secure this funding and I look forward to seeing the end result in the near future. The Football Foundation is dedicated, with funding provided from the Premier League, The FA and government, to raising the standard of grassroots community sports facilities and to getting more people actively playing the national sport.”
