45 students from Lincoln Castle Academy received training for the School Games Level 3 county competitions.
The students received a full days’ training, delivered by the Youth Sports Trust and Active Lincolnshires Partnership, on subjects ranging from disability sport to sports media and event organising.
The day kicked off in style with a visit from Dermot Gascoyne, former International Heavyweight boxer and regular sparring partner to Frank Bruno and Lennox Lewis. Dermot gave an inspirational talk to the students on his journey to becoming an elite athlete and also the value of volunteering within sport.
Helen Foot, teacher of PE at Lincoln Castle Academy, said: “The students received valuable leadership training from the Youth Sport Trust and Active Lincolnshires Partnership. They were really inspired by Dermot Gascoyne from Sky Sports Living for Sport and they all went away fully equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to help run sporting events.”
All the students who took part in the training will go on to support the Level 3 School Games multi-sport festival taking place at Lincoln Castle Academy, Yarborough Leisure Centre, Christ’s Hospital School and Lincoln College Sports Fields on Wednesday 27th June 2012.
