Sportswoman of the Year

The Sportswoman of the Year award is presented to an individual who has displayed an outstanding level of personal achievement at district, county, regional, national or international level.

The individual must be aged over 18 on the 17th November 2011.


Arran Brindle, 31, Cricket

Louth and Lincolnshire’s Cricket Superstar Arran Brindle has had an outstanding 2013. Even by her high standards the past 12 months have heralded unparalleled success at the International, National, County and local level in the Women’s game. Her achievements include: Becoming England’s premier all-round cricketer taking the 2nd highest number of wickets and scoring the 3rd highest number of runs for the England Team in the one day game. Regaining the Women’s Ashes Trophy from World Champions Australia. Arran was a core player for the England Team playing in all 7 matches at Test Match, One Day and T20 level. Having the 2nd highest batting average for the England Team in the 2013 Women’s World Cup in India and being the 5th highest wicket taker in the competition returning best figures of 3 wickets for 0 runs against runners up West Indies. Arran’s contribution helped the England Team to a third place position in the competition. Arran’s successes over a sustained period of time have helped place Lincolnshire on the sporting map and in 2013 Louth held Lincolnshire’s first ever Full International One Day Cricket Match between England Women and Pakistan Women. The match was witnessed by a crowd in excess of 2,000 spectators including 1,000 school children. Arran’s involvement in the National Team was a key catalyst to bringing high profile International Sport to the County. Arran’s dedication to her game is renowned and demonstrated in her training which includes regular long distance round trips across England and in the past 12 months tours to India and Sri Lanka. She brings a high level of professionalism to the game and is a perfect role model for both senior and junior players. Her successes coupled with her commitment through her coaching role have helped to inspire women and girls to play cricket locally with Louth Cricket Club one of five Clubs to play in the inaugural Lincolnshire Women’s League in 2013.

Sophie has had extremely successful year in her swimming career with the following achievements: World Short course championships Istanbul – December 2012 7th – 200 individual medley in a new English record time 6th – 100 individual medley 4th – breaststroke leg in the 4 x100 medley relay in a new british record time British championships – June 2013 Gold in 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke – qualifying for the World long course championships GBR team Silver in the 200 Butterfly World Long Course Championships – Barcelona July/August 2013 7th – 200 individual medley in a English record time 6th – breaststroke leg in the 4 x 100 medley relay.

After a fantastic perforamce in London 2012 Olympics, Sophie won the European Gold medal in Para Equestrian this year.
