Sports Club of the Year

The Sports Club of the Year award is presented to a club which has made a substantial contribution to the local community.

The club must have achieved or be working towards Clubmark or similar club accreditation and have good school/community links.

Legbourne Cricket Club

12 months ago Legbourne Cricket Club consisted of a small number of children from the local village receiving coaching and playing a handful of friendly fixtures throughout a short summer season. However successful seeds had been sown and fast forward 12 months the club is thriving and growing in all areas. The following developments have taken place in this remarkably short space of time; o Under 13 team entered the East Lindsey league for the first time and won it! Coaching numbers have increased to 50 per session. Under 11 team has been formed and will enter the league next year. Club has signed up to the ECB’s Clubmark and is working towards accreditation. Club has forged a close link with the local primary school. Club has a formal link with Louth Cricket Club, an ECB Focus club, to share resources to enhance the offer for local participants. Club has a 5 year development plan to increase the number of teams from 1 to 4 (Under 11, 13, 15 and senior team). Inspired facilities funding bid will be resubmitted in December 2013 to provide new equipment and develop changing facilities. The club plays a key role in bringing the local community together. It works very closely with the Community Centre Committee, who own and manage the sporting facilities the club plays on. The clubs welcoming atmosphere attracts many parents and spectators to all training sessions and fixtures and recruits volunteers for a range of other community supporting activities. Legbourne Cricket Club has a committed group of dedicated volunteers and coaches who have built a fantastic platform from which the club is growing and set to thrive.

Kesteven Rugby Football Club

The club has a celebrated one of its finest seasons. The first fifteen had their most successful season for many years finishing second in Midlands League 3 and gaining promotion for the first time in the history of the Club. In addition to this the second team were runners up in their league while the third team were winners of the Lincolnshire Merit table plate competition. The mini and youth sections of the club continue to thrive. There are around 300 youngsters turning out every week. The teams have achieved considerable success in competitions within Notts, Lincolnshire and Derbyshire. Individual players have been recognised by the County squads. One under 16 player is in the Leicester Tigers squad and four Colts players are training with RFU Championship side Nottingham’s Academy squad. The experience gained by these young players has rubbed off on to the senior squad and the club now has its youngest first team squad for many years. Around 80% of the players have come through the club’s own junior section. The club prides itself in maintaining the highest standard of coaching. It provides training for all its coaches ensuring that they reach the highest standard possible, from Rugby Ready through Level 1 and Level 2 RFU coaching awards. The club has taken a lead in Lincolnshire by making its premises available for coaching courses for clubs in the County. The Club was recognised for its efforts by achieving Accredited Status with the Rugby Football Union as well as receiving an award from Notts, Lincs and Derbys RFU in recognition of the quality of coaching offered by the Club. In addition the Club’s insistence that its players maintain the highest level of discipline, sportsmanship, and teaching them the need to respect their opponents and referees has been recognised by The Rugby Football Union in the award of a runners up trophy in the This is Rugby Category of the RFU President’s awards. Off the field the club has just completed an extension to the clubhouse to provide additional accommodation for its young people. This ensures that the club continues to develop its own pool of talent for the future so that the club enhances its reputation as one of the top clubs in Lincolnshire in developing young rugby players.

University of Lincoln Netball

The University of Lincoln Netball Club have worked tirelessly over the last season to build and improve there overall development for the club and it’s members! The Club have x2 teams which compete within BUCS league, the workload to organise each team every week is very demanding on the committee who complete these roles on a volunteer basis around there studies, the committee volunteered over 500+ volunteer hours and were presented with certificates at our Volunteer Awards Event to reward and recognise there dedication and continued hard work. The Club raised there 2012/13 membership by a whopping 34% from the previous year! The 1st Team finished the season by not only winning there league but with an amazing 100% win rate in their League. The 2nd Team won 75% of there games for the season which again is a huge improvement from the previous season where they only won 9% of their games. The Team finished 2nd in their league – making them our 3rd ranked Best Club overall for BUCS Season. They have successfully set up of a 3rd Team for Social participation in the sport! Won the Students’ Union S&S Awards Best Sports Team for 2012/13! A very worthy Club who deserve as much recognition for their achievements as possible.
