Community Games

How will your Community get involved with the Games?

Community Games provides a wonderful and unique opportunity for communities across Lincolnshire to celebrate the London 2012 Games, and beyond.

It will enable thousands of people to experience and create their own Olympic or Paralympic moment.

We hope you will want to be part of the Community Games programme and we will support you along the way as you organise your event

Now is the time to sign up for Community Games and create a special moment to celebrate London 2012 in your own neighbourhood.

What is a Community Games event?

It’s up to you to organise your Games in a way that works for you, but we’re here to help!

A Community Games event should:

  • Celebrate the London 2012 Games
  • Reflect the Olympic and Paralympic values of: Respect, Excellence, Determination, Friendship, Inspiration, Courage, Equality
  • Include arts and crafts, as well as sport
  • Include an Opening or Closing Ceremony

Some communities may focus on contests to give the event a competitive element, others may want to focus on giving people the opportunity to try something new, from archery to climbing. Whatever the focus of your Community Games, you should provide an opportunity for everyone in your community to participate.

How can I get involved?

There is lots of information on the Community Games website, but let us know if you’d like to plan a Community Games event in your neighbourhood. Contact Clare Gilman-Abel on 01522 585 580.

Registering your event as a Community Games gives a group FREE membership to our Sports Equipment Library for the duration of the event, together with the FREE loan of up to three items of equipment. (More can be hired, but a hiring fee would be charged on any items over the three free ones).

The equipment can be used as part of a fundraiser e.g. Sumo Suits or Zorb balls or alternatively could be used to enable competitions or challenges to take place. The equipment hired from the Sports Library e.g. tug of war, giant Jenga are all great for getting people involved in your Community Games as the sports element, and if a small charge is made for activities money can be raised for a charity or to support a local cause.

Active Lincolnshires Partnership is working with Lincolnshire YMCA to deliver Community Games in Lincolnshire.
