Shane Ward – Operations Manager, Lincolnshire Active Community Network (LACN)
After graduating from the University of Lincoln in 2005 with a BSC (Hons) Sports Development and Coaching degree Shane worked for Active Lincolnshires Partnership as an apprentice project officer whilst also lecturing at Lincoln college on the BTEC courses. After a successful first year Shane was then offered a new role as Events Officer and organised events such as the Lincolnshire Youth Games, Active Lincolnshires Awards, Step into Sport, Coach and volunteer conference along with numerous other projects and events.
In January 2008, Active Lincolnshires Partnership then took Shane on as a National Governing Body Project Officer. In just over one year Shane started more than 30 new sports clubs and teams with many still running today including Spalding Sparks Netball Club, Lincoln Rounders League, Louth Netball Club and Stamford High 5 club. To support this Shane also attracted over £70,000 worth of funding to support these clubs and grass roots sport.
In 2008 Shane left LSP to work for Carre’s Grammar School as Competition Manager in the Sleaford and Grantham areas. This was a national project and involved organising more than 100 events every year for all ages and sports. The funding for School Sports Partnerships was then cut by the new government in 2011 and Shane started working for Lincolnshire Active Community Network (LACN) and within the first year started over 60 new community classes. He now continues in this role and enjoys the variety and challenge of the role.
Outside of work Shane runs a Junior Football team where he has coached for over 10 years and also enjoys playing and watching a variety of sports.
