What have you been up to in the last three months?
Leading up to the National Championships I attended the City of Sheffield Swim Squad level 3 meet at Ponds Forge. We used this meet to swim some events that I have not been competing in recently and also used the meet for 50m long course conditioning prior to the Nationals. I had a great time and achieved PB’s in the 200m Back, 100m Breast and 50m Freestyle, the 200m Back was a massive 5 seconds PB.
I qualified to compete in seven events at this year’s National Championships.
In the heats I had some very good swims and achieved personal best times in all seven events, notably the 800m Freestyle with a huge reduction of almost 10 seconds and improving my national ranking from 71st to 26th in the Open category and to 11th in the 15/16 year old category.
Other ranking improvements were: –
- 200m Freestyle 14th.
- 200m IM 32nd to 23rd .
- 100m Butterfly 30th to 20th & then in the semi-final 20th to 14th.
- 200m Butterfly 32nd to 14th.
- 400m Individual Medley 36th to 14th.
- 400m Freestyle 42nd to 22nd
I qualified for the semi-finals of the 100m butterfly, 200m Freestyle and 200m Individual Medley. In the 100m Butterfly Semi Final I achieved a further personal best time.
I broke Lincolnshire County long course records in the 50m, 100m and 200m Butterfly and Lincoln Vulcans all-time Club records in the 100m Butterfly and the 800m Freestyle. The 100m Butterfly record had been held by Sophie Allen who is currently a GB Team member and 2012 Olympian.
These results were a big improvement on results from last year’s Nationals.
After the summer break my first meet of the new season was the Derventio Short Course Meet at Matlock at the beginning of October where I had some good swims and gained PB’s in the 200m IM, 200m Back, 200m and 400m Freestyle.
The first team event of the season was the Arena League Rd 1 held at the Deepings leisure centre where I represented Vulcans in the Ladies Open events and had PB’s in the 100m Butterfly and 200m IM
At the Lincoln Vulcans Level One Open meet at Ponds Forge I was swimming in the 16 year old age group and I won the 400m Freestyle, finished second in the 200m Freestyle and 200m IM together with a third place finish and Lincolnshire County record in the 100m Butterfly.
The next day I was Lincolnshire girl’s captain at the National Inter County Team Championships at Ponds Forge, the team did really well gaining a top ten finish in Division Two.
What’s coming up?
Before Christmas I will be competing at the Midlands Short Course Championships at Rugby and the Derventio Christmas Cracker Meet at Sheffield. I will be in the pool eight times per week in preparation for these meets.
